Subject: The Status of this Mailing List
Sender: owner-lightwave-l@netcom.com
Precedence: bulk
Reply-To: lightwave-l@netcom.com
I figured I'd post a message with various topics in mind.
1) As you may or may not know, a Lightwave oriented newsgroup is in the
CFV stage. If you have not seen the message, either travel to
news.groups or e-mail me (djmccoy@netcom.com) and I'll relay the CFV
message to you.
2) I'm still waiting for Netcom to change the moderation status of both
lists. In addition, and I know this will cause great fuss to some,
I have requested both lists be changed back to having the replies go
to the sender. It is far more convenient to respond to an individual
this way and for messages you KNOW can be important to the rest of the
list can always be forwarded to the list. The mailing list addresses
are easy to remember. Yes! This will probably reduce the amount of
messages. But hopefully, the messages posted will be of more value.
3) There's been a rash of subscribe posts going to the list. If you tell
someone about subscribing to the lists, PLEASE have them send e-mail
to "listserv@netcom.com". The Weekly Reminder gives all the details.
This also goes for unsubscribe messages.
4) Does the possible newsgroup spells the end of the Lightwave-l? At this
time, no. There still hasn't been someone to volunteer to manage a mail
gateway between the newsgroup and the list. How I will handle the
subscription base (ie: remove everyone and have them re-subscribe if
they want to or leave everyone and those that want to unsubscribe can
do so) is still being thought out.
That should do it for now. If you have comments or questions on the
information above, please direct them to djmccoy@netcom.com and not the
list itself. We need to get back on track.
Thanks,
Dan
